Empatico, an initiative of The KIND Foundation, is in the early stages of creating a free tool for teachers to connect their students to classrooms around the world using seamless video conferencing technology. Through virtual exchanges, participants are exposed to other perspectives across cultures and geographies. Authentic personal connections repeated across thousands of classrooms have a profound impact. We are partnering with teachers and education practitioners to develop the art and science behind meaningful connections.

Overview of Role
We are looking for a colleague who will help us design and build our growing platform for our teacher and student communities. The platform is designed for classrooms, with students 5-11 years old, to meet other classes, undertake educational activities and develop leadership, social and empathy skills.
- is beautiful, functional, easy to use and performs well
- runs on mobile and the web
- grows and develops the Empatico movement and community
Every day, you will collaborate with colleagues across the Empatico team as well as teachers and students to solve problems, ensure a consistent user experience, and build inspiring, empathetic experiences for our communities.
You will have a chance to partner with engineers and product folks at Empatico and collaborate with our partners to come up with features and explore new ideas. As cross functional teams, we will spot and tackle challenges as they arise. Together, we will work from concept to execution, collaborating to develop functional designs that will delight our community.
We would like you to have a strong sense of product design, product management, user experience, interaction design, typography, layout, composition, and color. We are interested in how you develop scalable design systems, processes, and approaches. We would like your involvement in helping develop and manage our product features, roadmaps, and collaborative processes.
We would like you to have:
- At least around 3 years of previous experience designing and shipping digital products across web and mobile
- A strong product design portfolio, with examples of visual design and user experience design
- Previous experience working as part of a team with product and engineering to manage designs, roadmaps, and backlogs
- Examples of using data and user research to inform and support your design decisions
- Openness to presenting your designs confidently and taking on feedback as part of collaborative teamwork
- Intuition to translate vision and intent into meaningful design decisions
- Proficiency with CSS and HTML
- Proficiency with design tools such as Sketch, Photoshop, and prototyping tools
If you’re not sure on whether you cover all these but feel passionate about our mission, we strongly encourage you to apply.
